Meet the Monkeys˛...
Many of the monkeys you are about to meet have been
rescued and adopted from scary toy stores or noisy
jelly bean shops and welcomed into our homes.
We have learned through the time
we have spent with them that each monkey
has been unique in his or her own way, revealing special
personalities, as you'll soon discover.
(Note: Each monkey appears in the order that he or she came to the Monkey Club.)
< Introducing the monkeys >
Coconut Monkey : Coconut Monkey was the first
monkey to come home with us. He was bought in Orlando, Florida at an FAO
Shwarz in 1997 and has been with us ever since. He is a funny
monkey who has a great sense of humor and he is very wise about a great
many things. Like the other monkeys, he loves to talk.
Pineapple Monkey : Pineapple is a skinny spider monkey who
has a very afraid look on his face. He like to ponder about a great many
worldy issues, and is frightened for the humanity of Earth. He cannot
be found without his trusty pineapple can hat (unless he somehow
misplaces it!). He was brought home from Sea World in Cleveland, Ohio.
Mojo Monkey : Mojo (related to Coconut Monkey) is a
smart monkey who loves to write his own essays and likes to "fly" through
the air. Mojo monkey has a great sense of humor. He plays mild practical
jokes and he loves to cheer people up. Found in 2000, he
was the first of many monkeys to live at the University of
Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Of the monkeys, Mojo Monkey is known
for being the "codemonkey" and computer expert.
Peanut Monkey : Peanut Monkey is a big fan of food
made of peanuts. He is a smaller monkey who has a blue Pokemon
Squirtle ring on his right hand. Peanut has learned how to do a little
bouncy "monkey dance" that always entertains and brings a smile to
everyone's face.
Shmonkey : Shmonkey is a very soft, cuddly monkey who was
purchased from a jelly bean shop. Shmonkey is very sympathetic and he
likes to cheer people up. He loves to cuddle up next to humans and take
naps, and like the other monkeys, he loves to read. He is learning how
to type essays from Mojo monkey.
Kiwi Monkey : (to the right of Peanut Monkey). As
you can tell, Kiwi is related to Peanut monkey. Kiwi has green fur and is
clearly a monkey, according to Peanut, because he gets along with Kiwi so
well and they have a lot in common. Kiwi monkey is not a F-R-O-G, so please don't
ask him about it.
Pez Monkey : Pez Monkey is a smaller monkey who takes his job
of dispensing pez very seriously. His goal is to be ever-flowing
of candies and he is easily embarrassed whenever someone points out that
he is E-M-P-T-Y. Please be considerate of his feelings.
Mooch Monkey : Mooch is a sweetheart. He resides
with best beanie friend Bongo and his old mentor, Coconut monkey. He has
recently learned to worry about global problems from his contacts with
Pineapple monkey. He is a very emotional and caring monkey, and he is
sensitive to the needs of his environment.
Bongo Monkey : Bongo is a resilient monkey who has seen a lot
of heartache. His dark nights in the beanie factory, teaching other
beanies to survive in the "real" world, also taught him the materialism
and discontentment of society. He hopes that his shiny eyes and small
stiched smile will forever bring happiness to little
children.
Princess Monkey : Princess monkey is not only a sweetheart,
but she is a real princess. All of the other monkeys admire her beauty
and love her shy, sweet personality. Princess Monkey is very generous and nice, and
she charms almost everyone she meets.
* The idea for princessmonkey.com was adapted from her name. It definitely fits. (Princess Monkey is deeply honored.)
Book Monkey : Sitting to the left of Shmonkey, Book Monkey
is a small, very fragile monkey. Although he is young, he is very smart because
he loves to read and learn about the world. In fact, he could be one of the world's most
intelligent monkeys because you can ask him just about any question and
he will discuss the topic... as he knows it.
Koko Monkey :
Koko is another educated monkey. She has knowledge of over
5000 different sign language symbols and can communicate with the human world.
Koko takes a break with sign language at the Monkey Club and she
just talks instead. She is very interested in current events and often
campaigns for more free coconuts and bananas in society.
Koko is known for rocking back and forth silently to signal that she wants
a hug.
Keychain Monkey and Sock Monkey : These two monkeys are
the smallest monkeys in the monkey club to date. They are learning the
ways of the human world from wise Book Monkey. Keychain monkey has a
hook from which he can hang from, but he does not prefer to use it unless
necessary (it hurts his head). Sock Monkey is our TINIEST monkey; he is only
about two quarters/large coins tall (if that). Since he is not a grown-up
yet, Sock Monkey has hopes to break free of the stereotypes that other sock
monkeys endure. He is currently being taught to live as a "free
monkey."
Fuzz Dexter (D.) Monkey : Dexter is a very fuzzy monkey
who loves to eat at any time of the day. He has extended periods
of ponderment in which he eventually gets to wondering how long it has
been since he has last eaten; and then he gets "hongry grombles." When he
is hongry (which is VERY often), he sticks out his hand to ask for
food. He loves to watch cooking shows on television--his favorite show
is Iron Chef .
Minnie Monkey : Minnie is a tiny monkey with a sweet
personality who always clasps a red heart. She is a very young monkey,
yet she believes everyone should have someone to love them. Minnie trys to
make sure others know they are loved by showing them the red heart in her hands. The
gentle gesture and the sparkle in her eyes lets everyone know
that she is sincere in her affections.
Nice Monkey : Nice Monkey is a friendly, rather handsome and
well-groomed monkey from France (specifically "La Samaritaine.")
Nice Monkey speaks fluent French and English, and enjoys using
an orange felt sign that buttons onto his tummy
to reveal the mood he is in. One side of his sign says,
"Bienvenue!" ("welcome," in English), meaning he'd like to play.
But the flipside says, "Ne pas deranger SVP!," translating to "do not
disturb me please!" When we see that, we know
he's joking or would like some time to himself.
Soda Monkey : (not pictured) Soda monkey is a bit of a soft drink addict. He always has a bottle of Coca-Cola in his left hand. Soda Monkey believes this bottle is filled with never-ending amounts of soda pop. (We've seen him refill it often.) Soda Monkey is timid and doesn't want to be photographed at this date.
Watermelon Monkey : Watermelon monkey commands quite a
bit of attention & authority. Living up to his name, he is a dark shade of red as well as
the largest monkey at the Monkey Club to date (2 1/2' tall). Watermelon monkey
takes care of very small monkeys, just making sure they do not get in too much trouble.
He is very loving and patient. (And very soft when hugged.) He loves classic Godzilla
movies and has a great sense of humor.
Rupert Monkey : Rupert is an intellectual British monkey interested
in enlightenment, for others to open their eyes to the truths of the world.
He, like many of the monkeys, can often be found contemplating the perplexities of life
for hours on end. Many believe that Rupert's conversations are especially delightful
due to his British accent; to this, Rupert smiles and states it's all just balderdash
and tomfoolery.
Ed and Ein Monkey : Ed (red fur) and Ein (black fur) Monkey are twins and best friends.
They are both huge fans of Japanese anime; their favorite series is Cowboy Bebop.
Ed and Ein enjoy good competitions and often duel each other on Playstation and Dreamcast games.
Smithers the Monkey : Smithers is generally a quiet
monkey. He likes to play tennis, read, and enjoys watching his favorite
television programming. Shows on his regular schedule include The Simpsons,
Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Star Trek. Little known, he is a
fantastic cook, particularly in Japanese and Italian cuisine. He is a vegetarian.
Mr. Banana : Mr. Banana always has an amazingly abundant
supply of bananas. A very *magical* monkey, he generously donates very large
(and sometimes invisible) amounts of this important fruit for Monkey Club parties.
He enjoys teaching young monkeys history and mathematics, and often defines the subtle
importance of the banana in his teachings. Mr. Banana can make really fantastic
milkshakes and fruit smoothies.
Arthur Monkey : As a young monkey Arthur dreamed of
flying. He was often teased for dreaming so big and was not well accepted
by monkey culture. The Monkey Club has given him the chance to be with friends
that really understand him. Arthur is licensed to fly all Boeing and Airbus
airplanes and serves as the Chief-Pilot for Princess Air. His motto: "If it can fly, I can fly it."
Arthur has a PhD in Organic Chemistry and plays the drums in his free time.
Max Monkey : We waited many years to rescue Max.
(The FAO Schwarz ransom was expensive.) Since his liberation,
Max is in fantastic spirits, always wearing a grin. He is a big fan of Baseball,
especially enjoying the competition of the World series. Max would like to state that
everyone at the Monkey Club was a "Giants' Monkey" in 2002--not to be associated
with the Angels' swaggering "Rally Monkeys."
Tired of the FAO jingle, Max loves dancing around now to his MP3s and CDs.
Cally Monkey : Cally was rescued from a small shop off
the Californian coastline. She is an environmentally-conscious monkey, and
she's politically active to helping to make this planet a kinder and better place
for its animals. Cally thinks butterflies are pretty, so she wears a pretty blue butterfly ring on
her right hand. With her sparkly eyes and happy attitude, who or what
could stop such a charming, well-behaved monkey from fulfilling her ideals?
Frodo the "ThinkGeek" Monkey : Frodo is an adventurous monkey who
likes to pretend that his cool Thinkgeek shirt is being chased afted
by evil monkeys who want one. Frodo is very imaginative and smart, and partly because
he was rescued from a Web shop, he
can come up with many creative ideas for complicated problems.
He is very useful for learning tricks, be it for video games, card games (UNO!),
or his talents for hiking and rappeling down snow-capped mountains.
Zim Monkey : Zim is an academic monkey who lives to read
thick books and teach others what he has learned. Zim worries about this
planet and its inhabitants, and he tries to educate the Monkey Club
of new discoveries. He loves to discuss Politics, current events,
Social Studies and History. In his free time, between reading
thick books, Zim regularly watches CSPAN, CNN, the BBC network,
as well as the History Channel.
Josephine Monkey : Josephine was rescued from the back rooms of a crowded candy
shop at the Navy Pier in Chicago. She is very grateful to be with the Monkey Club, as her time
in the back rooms, without proper sunlight, was affecting her health. Josephine loves
baking desserts and to travel, and she particularly admires the thrill of transportation by car and plane.
Josephine is a cheerful, forward-looking monkey, always ready to embark on another journey.
Sparkles Monkey : Sparkles Monkey was rescued during the crazy holiday season
from a crowded boutique. She's a cute and quirky monkey, who is a little shy.
She tries to hide her big nose from people, but we all know it's just a part of Sparkles. We are proud
of who she is, and we love her so much that we would never want to
change her! Sparkles especially enjoys manga and anime with Ed and Ein Monkey--her
favorite series are Lain, Rurouni Kenshin, and Love Hina.
Need help to climb back to the top?
Aren't these the most adorable monkeys you've seen?
Don't forget to see the other monkey pages
and please
remember to sign the
monkey guestbook!
