The Flower Girl is a charming sweet-faced doll created to represent Audrey Hepburn's role as Eliza Doolittle in the film musical classic My Fair Lady. She is 11 ½" tall ( Barbie size ) and comes with an official collector's box.
Representing the beginning of this "loverly" film, Eliza Doolittle is a poor young woman selling flowers to the rich, who would like to learn to be able to speak more "genteel" so that she could perhaps work as a lady's aide or work as an assistant in a florist's shop someday. She meets Professor Higgins... and so the tale begins.
The doll facial mold has a sweet expression and, notably, she has real eyelashes, which produce a beautiful effect. Eliza wears a soft, green coat, with a purple scarf, over a tailored shirt. Along with this are her billowed plaid skirt and a lovely cream apron. Overall, these pieces create a conservative appearance, artfully matching the style that Audrey Hepburn wore in the film. This Flower Girl doll represents all of the disparaging times in Eliza's life, when she could not have all of the "chocolates and taxi rides" that she wanted, as she struggling under high society and with little money.
This Eliza Doolittle doll happens to be one of my mother's favorites--she believes it is the most endearing of the entire My Fair Lady doll collection because she represents a time in her life when she has yet to experience the hardships of becoming a "lady." (Well, what Eliza lacked in sophistication was made up for with sweetness and hopes.~)
The wicker basket and the small violets inside are a charming touch, (which Eliza should keep in such a way so that they don't get "trod in the mud"!). The doll also comes with her own doll stand and a accurately-printed Barbie size movie poster of My Fair Lady.
The pretty Flower Girl Eliza Doolittle doll makes a sharp statement when placed next to the elegantly dressed Embassy Eliza Doolittle doll. Consider her for your collection if you are an avid fan of Audrey Hepburn.
