Memorable Quotes from Sabrina (1954)

Directed by: Billy Wilder
Written by: Samuel A. Taylor
Adapted by: Billy Wilder, Samuel A. Taylor, & Ernest Lehman
Audrey Hepburn as Sabrina Fairchild
Humphrey Bogart as Linus Larrabee
William Holden as David Larrabee

- Sabrina Fairchild [toward David's choice of a girlfriend]: I hate girls who giggle all the time.

- Thomas Fairchild: You're still reaching for the moon.
- Sabrina: No, father. The moon's reaching for me!

- The Professor: Bonjour, madames et monsiuers. Yesterday we have learned the correct way how to boil water. Today we will learn the correct way how to crack an egg. Voila! An egg. Now, an egg is not a stone; it is not made of wood, it is a living thing. It has a heart. So when we crack it, we must not torment it. We must be merciful and execute it quickly, like with the guillotine.

- Baron St. Fontanel: A woman happily in love, she burns the souffle. A woman unhappily in love, she forgets to turn on the oven!

- David Larrabee: You don't live here!
- Sabrina: Yes, I do.
- David Larrabee: I live here!
- Sabrina: Hi, neighbor.

Interesting Movie Facts:

Humphrey Bogart was a last minute replacement for Cary Grant. (Also, Bogart had wanted his young wife Lauren Bacall in the role Audrey Hepburn plays).

Watching this movie is even more delightful (depending on your view) when one knows about the behind-the-scenes romance with Audrey Hepburn and her co-star William Holden. Holden supposedly fell in love with Audrey the minute when she had arrived on the set, but it took awhile for Audrey to get used to the fact that she was on such a large studio production, working with stars Bogart and Holden, much less that one of them was flirting with her! According to the news, Holden proposed marriage to Audrey, but she promptly declined after learning that he (divorced and had had a vasectomy) did not share the same idea of having children as she. The other co-star of the trio, Humphrey Bogart, was upset with the backstage romance and was quoted to state that the entire production was unprofessional and tremendously awful (but of course, using more choice words)!

Reported salaries for this film: Humphrey Bogart got $300,000, William Holden got $150,000, and Audrey Hepburn only received $15,000! :O
